Wanted

Grant Researcher and Writer

The Richmond Village Association (RVA), a not-for-profit, is seeking a volunteer to look for and draft grant proposals to raise funds for RVA activities/projects.

What would you do?

You would find grants that match our mission by searching federal/provincial/municipal government and other private or corporate sources, determine if we meet the funder’s criteria, then draft the proposal for Board approval.

It feels great to contribute to the betterment of your community, so get involved!

If you have any questions or are interested in assisting the RVA, please email us.

The Richmond Village Association (RVA) is a registered not-for-profit corporation with eight (8) Board Directors.  This lean group undertakes the following community activities on an annual basis:

  1. Winter and spring banner competition: This activity is funded by soliciting sponsors from local businesses and/or grants. This competition is run in the spring and winter, with a goal of community involvement and beautification. Children (ages 3-12) from the three (3) Richmond elementary schools are invited to paint a poster depicting a colourful scene (winter or summer- themed). The number of finalists is determined by the number of sponsors obtained. The banners are hung from village hydro/light/ etc poles along the main streets. The costs include painting materials, room rental for banner painting, the hiring of a company to convert the posters to outdoor banners and hang them (and remove old banners), and additional mounting bars to increase the number of banners that can be hung.
  2. Student Volunteer Award: This award ($1000) is funded out of RVA’s small general fund. One nomination is solicited from each of the three (3) local high schools. From the three nominations received, one award is given to a student that demonstrates local voluntarism, is planning to carry on to post-secondary education and is in financial need. We would like to expand this to present one award to each of the three high schools (applicable applicant dependent).
  3. Pre-Canada fireworks event: This event is conducted on 30 June, so it does not conflict with bigger Canada Day events. At this time, we are restricted to providing just the fireworks display at a local park, as it is sponsored by a local business. We would like to expand this community event to include more, recognizing that we are constrained by manpower and funding.
  4. Memorial Park Christmas lighting event: RVA sponsors the annual Christmas lights event for the Richmond Memorial Park. The costs include new lights (old lights were destroyed last year), hiring a company to install in November and remove in the spring, and refreshments for during the lighting event.
  5. Santa parade: RVA organizes the Richmond Community Santa Parade each year for local businesses and organizations. It is very popular. RVA docorates a float as part of the parade.  Costs include decorations, permit and police presence.
  6. RVA website: RVA has a website that hosts information on our corporate governance and all our events, in addition to other local events. We actively post on local FaceBook groups.
