The Ontario Energy Board consultation was welcomed by all in attendance. A large number of thoughtful presentations were made with the majority of attendees being opposed to the pipeline largely on grounds that the risks to the environment far outweighed any benefits. New information also came out that debunked the notion that the pipeline will reduce rail shipments of oil. Presenters raised the issue that the highly explosive diluting product necessary to thin the oil for pipeline transport would have to be recaptured at refineries in the east and shipped by rail back to Alberta for reinjection in the pipeline. The RVA presented a request to the OEB to support protection of groundwater and private wells with full indemnification of private well owners. The OEB will return in the Fall to Stittsville to talk about what they heard and what they plan to do.
