Mayors representing 82 municipalities in Quebec have taken a stand opposing the Energy East Pipeline adding their voice to those of many other municipalities along the pipeline route. Municipalities speaking out help inform the decision making process notwithstanding the fact the decision will ultimately rest with the Federal Government. The Province has engaged. Where does Mayor Jim Watson and our City Council stand on the issue? Is the City’s silence on such an important issue tacit approval?

The proposed pipeline passes within a few hundred meters of Richmond. Could our community survive a spill? The water supplying wells could be ruined . What about the urban water supply? What are the benefits stacked against the risks? The taxpayers of this City are impacted as well as City assets such as land, waterways and infrastructure. Let’s hope our City officials are paying attention!
